You have surfed into
a tribute site to some of the best in BBC comedies, captured here
in the form of Windows95 Desktop Themes for you to download and
enjoy. This page is my tribute that hit BBC TV comedy show Keeping Up Appearances featuring
the talents of Patricia Routledge and Clive
Swift as the principle characters Hyacinth and Richard Bucket pronounced Bouquet. The
following picture will introduce you to our formidable characters
Hyacinth and Richard Bucket - err, sorry about
that, Bouquet!....

Hyacinth Bucket (err, sorry Bouquet) is an overbearing middle class snob of the first order! She is so obsessed with etiquette and breeding that she has made her husband Richard's life miserable. Their house is spotless, their car is perfection and they never use the back door of their house. Why, she even puts her empty milk bottles in the dishwasher so they are spotless on the doorstep!
The rest of her family is another story. Her sister Daisy's husband Onslow is a slob and her lecherous father is a drunk. Imagine her shame when he is arrested pedaling naked on his bike while chasing a milk woman. clever....
As you may have guessed from this thumbnail sketch, the main theme running throughout this stereo typical reflection of an aspiring middle-class English household is the often obsessive behaviour of Hyacinth Bucket (whoops, Bouquet) who seemingly will go to any length to impress her long suffering neighbours, the Vicar and her various charitable activity groups to name but a few.
She is, of course, hammered in this task by her sisters husband, slob-in-law Onslow played by Geoffrey Hughes who is personification of sloth and who has yet to reach the exalted ranks of the middle classes. Her husband Richard is continually embarrassed by Hyacinths antics and this BBC sitcom never ceases to amuse.
The first series of Keeping Up Appearances appeared on British TV in 1990 and was followed by further series in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1995. Christmas Specials appeared in 1993, 1994 and 1995 and the show is currently airing as re-runs on BBC1.
