You have surfed into beebfun a tribute site to some of the best in BBC comedies, captured here in the form of Windows95 Desktop Themes for you to download and enjoy. This page is my tribute to Harry Enfield and Chums - a showcase for the talents of Harry Enfield, as shown on BBC 1.

Harry Enfield is perhaps one of today’s greatest comic actors currently appearing on the small screen in UK. His specialty is in the creation and portrayal of comical characters which make us pause and think to ourselves "Now that's just like so-and-so down the road - how clever...."

As Stavros, the Greek kebab seller and Loads-a-Money, the vulgar Tory Yuppie, Harry Enfield delighted the British public on Channel 4's Saturday Night Live in the late 80's. He went on to write and star in a hugely successful nation-wide tour in 1988. This was followed in 1989 by another comedy series on Channel 4 Sir Norbert Smith...A Life a retrospective look at the life and times of this fictional creation by Harry Enfield which was to lead to such prestigious awards as the Silver Rose at Montreux and an International Emmy Award for popular arts programmes.

The idea for a character-based comedy show developed from these early successes and in 1992 the Harry Enfield Christmas Special first appeared on BBC2 and was subsequently repeated on BBC1. Other program formats followed including Harry Enfield's Television Programme on BBC2 Harry Enfield's Guide to the Opera on Channel 4 in 1993 and Smashie and Nicey - the End of an Era - a special for BBC.

The first series of Harry Enfield and Chums appeared on British TV in 1994 and featured such characters as Kevin the Teenager, Tim Nice-but-Dim, The Slobs and the Old Gits.

The second series, aired in 1997 and currently being re-run on BBC1, features even more wacky characters played by Harry and friends and include Il Pastino Pat an Italian version of Postman Pat, Jurgen the German and the Toddlers. The following picture shows Harry Enfield as the mischievous boy Toddler who delights in making life hell for the girl Toddler, Lulu (played by Kathy Burke).

The above picture typifies the attention to detail Harry Enfield and crew go to achieve the believable characters featured in the show. None more so than Kevin the Teenager who is my personal favourite (see below).
