This then is my tribute to that British institution the Carry On Films.

Carry On what? Well just about anything you care to think of really! Born out of the 50's and still going in the 90's, over 30 Carry On Films were released between 1958 and 1992. Carry On Sergeant started it all in 1958 culminating in less than well received Carry On Columbus in 1992. In between we had Nurses, Teachers, Constables, Cowboys, Doctors, Spies. Then there were those films loosely based on such pastimes and themes as Cruising, Camping, Jungles, Deserts, Haunted Houses etc.. The series boasted amongst the cast some of the best comic actors of the day including Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Conner, Barbara Windsor, Windsor Davies, Bernard Breaslaw.

So what made them popular? Beats me! They were made on a shoestring, had very little in the way of a plot. This inevitably revolved around two basic factors farce and sex. Perhaps it was the unashamed innuendoes and vague references to "it" that endeared the films to the hearts of the British. True, the British like a good laugh and they like nothing more than to laugh at themselves so by rotating through the whole landscape of professions and pastimes, people actually identified with the cast and scripts and maybe, just maybe that was why they succeeded. As I said, beats me! The stars of the series developed their own characters who would re-appear time after time, this time as a Doctor, next time as an Officer on a cruise ship! Each one had their own persona. The strong, the dim, the wolf, the babe! You name it they had it. I liken the whole series to modern day pantomime and really when you boil it all down, they just brought Victorian Pantomime screaming and kicking into the 20th century.

The Carry On Desktop Theme is my small tribute to the Carry On films of the 60's, 70's and 80's. They are simply a British institution - naughty romps, innuendos, farce in short a pantomime for the second half of the 20th century. The Theme features themed start-up and shutdown screens, hi-colour (24-bit) desktop wallpaper, animated cursor set and new desktop icons. Also included are new event sounds taken from various Carry On movies. We have also included a full feature screensaver constructed using Screen Saver Studio Deluxe featuring more Carry On sights and sounds. Full installation instructions are provided in the Readme file and the whole theme is available in a convenient zip file to download.
