comedy series 'Allo 'Allo created
and written by Jeremy Lloyd and David
Croft.
'Allo 'Allo is one of the BBC's best loved comedy series featuring a French cafe owner during World War II by the name of René Artois, played by fine comedy actor Gordon Kaye and his various entanglements with the German officers who are controlling the town, the French Resistance which is attempting to smuggle downed British airmen back to England, and the beautiful waitresses who work for him and want him to leave his wife. All these various themes are woven into a tapestry of plot that extends from episode to episode, making 'Allo 'Allo one of the few examples of a "continuous sitcom" ever produced - each episode follows logically from the last, making it necessary to watch the show in order to enjoy the show to its fullest. Let René explain.....
I never planned to be ze bravest man in all France. I'ad enough on my plate running Café René and satisfying ze demands of ze Germans (not to mention ze demands of my waitresses Yvette and Maria). I was so busy zat often I 'ad next to no time for my wife Edith and even less for Fanny, 'er invalid mother.
Then Michelle of ze Resistance arrived to “say this only once” (she was to say this many more times), that ze two English airman and Monsieur Le Clerc, ze forger, would shortly arrive. Cafe René was to be a safe 'ouse for escaping P.O.Ws.
One such story tells of 'ow I came to be blowing up a train carrying ze stolen painting of Fallen Madonna with ze big boobies by Van Clomp 'idden in a knockwurst sausage... 'ow Herr Flick of ze Gestapo was to accuse me of removing Helga's silk knickers (the ones with ze swastika hemline)... And 'ow I came to be caught between Ze Germans and ze Gestapo, Ze French and Communist Resistance and ze waitresses and my wife...
René Artois (Proprietor of Café René)

As the storyline weaves from one absurd escape scheme to another, as the characters connive and cavort, and as the war itself progresses, the humor flows from the premises in wonderful fashion, resulting in my all-time favorite comedy show.
The BBC TV comedy series 'Allo 'Allo featured some fine comedy actors. Carmen Silvera played the part of Rene's wife, Edith Artois, with Vicki Michelle playing the part of Yvetter Carte Blanche. Another of my favourites was Arthur Bostrom as Officer (Captain) Crabtree to mention but a few.
'Allo 'Allo has been one of the most successful BBC comedies over the years, first appearing in 1984 and the last series shown in 1992. The first pilot episode of 'Allo 'Allo appeared on British Television on 30th December 1982 and the final episode, a 10th Anniversary special was screened on the 17th August 1994. There were a total of 84 episodes between 1984 and 1994 including 2 Christmas Specials and the 10th anniversary special. The show ran for a total of 9 series (seasons).
